Buchanan, N.Y. – Control room
operators returned the Indian Point unit 3 nuclear power plant to service early
Friday morning.
The plant automatically shut down
late Monday, October 29, when an electrical grid disturbance external to the
plant caused unit 3’s main electrical generator to automatically shut down. The
plant shut down by design.
Unit 3 was online for 201 continuous
days prior to the shut down.
Unit 2 was unaffected by the shut
down and is operating at full power.
Indian Point Energy Center, in
Buchanan, N.Y., is home to two operating nuclear power plants, unit 2 and unit
3, which generate approximately 2000 megawatts of electricity for homes,
business and public facilities in New York City and Westchester County.
