Buchanan, N.Y. – Control room
operators returned the Indian Point unit 3 nuclear power plant to service
Thursday morning after safely shutting down the plant on Monday to repair a
valve that controls the flow of water into one of four steam generators.
Unit 3 had been online for 120
continuous days prior to the shutdown.
Unit 2 was unaffected by the shutdown
and continues to operate at full power.
Indian Point Energy Center, in
Buchanan, N.Y., is home to two operating nuclear power plants, unit 2 and unit
3, which generate approximately 2000 megawatts of electricity for homes,
businesses and public facilities in New York City and Westchester County.
